MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Education on Monday said
classes in the elementary and high school levels in public schools
throughout the country are suspended until Tuesday to allow teachers who
served as election tellers in the barangay (village) and Sangguniang
Kabataan (youth council) elections to rest.
In a telephone
interview, DepEd Communication Unit Director Cristina Ganzon, also said
classes in schools in villages where elections have been moved to
Tuesday are suspended until Wednesday.
Ganzon added that
elections in villages were postponed for Tuesday mostly due to delays of
the delivery of election paraphernalia.
Ganzon explained that the suspension of classes nationwide on Tuesday will give teachers a “rest day.”
“This suspension of classes is in consideration for teachers who served as election tellers,” Ganzon told Inquirer.net.
