Starting this Saturday, January 27 to February 28, parents and guardians of learners in Kindergarten to Grade 12 this school year 2018-2019 may early register their children in any public elementary and secondary school they wish to study.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has set a month-long early registration period for Kindergarten up to Grade 12 in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide in efforts to reach the expected number of students for school year 2018-2019 and to better prepare for and address the possible issues and concerns school authorities may face during enrollment period in June.
DepEd Cordillera regional director May Eclar said the activity also aims to ensure that all five-year-old children are enrolled in Kindergarten while out-of-school children and youth especially in remote or geographically isolated areas or difficult circumstances are enrolled in their respective grade levels.
To help locate children who should be in school, school personnel are enjoined to conduct various activities such as house-to-house campaign, and meetings with local and barangay officials and civic organizations.
Meanwhile, DepEd Cordillera got a budget of P8.7 billion this school year, an increase by 24 percent compared to last year’s budget.
Eclar said a bigger part of the budget is allotted for the salaries of teachers, and the rest will be for maintenance, expenses, and capital outlay.
‘Our teachers are happy with the with the salary increase; we expect them to work harder,” she added.
