MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended
six school officials in Pangasinan and is looking into the involvement
of other officers in two more regions in connection with the alleged
“orchestrated cheating” in the last National Achievement Test (NAT).
Reports reaching the DepEd central office, showed that one district
official and five heads of elementary schools in Region 1 initiated
cheating among students when they took the NAT earlier this month.
DepEd is also investigating incidents reported in Western Visayas and
Metro Manila. Reports included cases of students being given actual
test questionnaires and answer sheets to copy.
Alberto Muyot, DepEd Undersecretary for Legal and Legislative
Affairs, made these disclosures and also called on those who witnessed
or experienced being prodded into cheating to report to
DepEd expects regional directors to submit their reports next week.
